Nike has launched the Vegam Run, a running shoe it says was designed specifically for India. The shoe is priced at ₹3,795 and will go on sale in the country from 1 November, the company said on Thursday.
The shoe pairs a mesh upper that is engineered for fit with cushioning that runs the full length of the foot, plus a textured rubber outsole. Nike says the rubber around the edge of the sole is there to add durability, and pull tabs on the heel make the shoe easier to slip on. The company positions it as an entry point for people starting to run and for everyday movement.
How it was built
Nike said it based the design on how runners across India train, run and move through their daily lives. The company says it focused on cushioning, breathability and durability. Deepa Ramprasad, senior director of Nike Road Running Footwear, said the aim was "to honour the voice of the runner in India and build what they need".

Nike says the project moved from design brief to a product it had confirmed in 55 days, and reached launch about five months after the initial idea. Its product, marketplace and manufacturing teams worked on it together.
The shoe also comes in colourways inspired by India. One, called After Dark Tour, is tied to a Nike event in Mumbai in December.
Where to buy
From 1 November, the Vegam Run will be sold through Flipkart and select retail stores in India. Nike plans wider distribution through its partners in the country in spring 2027.
Tarundeep Singh, general manager of Nike India, said the shoe was meant to invite more people into running. He said it was for "those taking their first steps into sport to lifelong runners". Nike has not said how many pairs it will make or how it will be priced at partner stores.
