Grievance officer

If something on idly concerns you, you can complain to our grievance officer. We acknowledge within 24 hours and decide within 15 days.

What you can complain about

Under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, you can raise a complaint about anything published on idly, including a story you believe is false, defamatory, invades someone's privacy, infringes copyright or breaks the law.

How to raise a complaint

  • Write to the grievance officer at grievance@idly.world.
  • Include the link to the story or page, what the problem is, and how we can reach you.
  • If you are writing on someone else's behalf, say so.

For a factual error, the quickest route is the correction form. Corrections are published on the corrections log.

What happens next

  1. We reply within 15 days

We acknowledge your complaint within 24 hours and send you our decision within 15 days. Where the law requires faster action, for example for content showing a person in a private or sexual context without consent, we act within the time the rules set. If a story is taken down, it is removed from idly and from idly's social media posts.
  2. Not satisfied? Appeal to a self-regulating body

If you don't agree with our decision, or don't hear from us within 15 days, the Rules let you appeal to a self-regulating body of news publishers. It is independent of idly.
  3. Then the Ministry's committee

If you are still not satisfied, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's oversight process can take it up. Its Inter-Departmental Committee hears these complaints.
