Mentioned in this story
Kamal Haasan's new film has been titled Sandiyar, and its first-look poster was released on the eve of the actor's birthday. The poster shows Haasan in a striking avatar, standing near a car and holding a gun.
The film is directed by S.U. Arun Kumar, who previously made Chithha, the critically acclaimed film starring Siddharth. The makers said the new look is part of the project's first public update, released on 5 November.
Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), Haasan's home production banner, is financing the film. Anirudh is composing the music. The makers have not announced a release date in the material available.
A difficult run for Haasan
Haasan has had a rough run at the box office in recent years. Indian 2 and Thug Life both faced major setbacks. Whether Sandiyar can help him recover has not yet been tested.
Siddharth's comeback after a series of flops came with Chithha, and Arun Kumar's work on that film drew wide praise. The pairing of his direction with Haasan's star power is the main draw for the project.
No cast beyond Haasan, and no release window, has been confirmed yet.
