Suriya's crime comedy 'Scene' opens in theatres to mixed early reviews

Suriya's crime comedy Scene opened in theatres on 6 November 2026. The Tamil film is directed by Jithu Madhavan, who made the Malayalam hit Aavesham. Early reviews call it a quirky, chaotic and entertaining film.

Suriya plays Crime Branch inspector Inbaraj, also named DSP Prem Raj in one review. He wants to resign, but his boss refuses to accept it because of his record. He then takes on a murder case in which the killer copies a serial killer that Inbaraj had already jailed. That raises suspicion about his earlier work, and he sets out to prove he is not a copycat killer.

Nazriya Nazim plays Maya, Suriya's house help in the film. Naslen plays Eeswaran, the murderer. This is a first for Naslen, who takes on a villainous part here. Maya is Suriya's assistant.

Mixed reception

The film has good performances, quirky moments and music. The mystery is thin and Naslen is underused. Viewers should watch it for fun. The film has a lighter tone, which avoids a heavy and dark mood throughout. Suriya fits the role well and handles the comedy with ease.

The film's music is by Sushin Shyam. Cinematography is by Vineeth Augustian and editing by Ajmal Sabu. Suriya and Jyotika produced the film.

For Indian moviegoers, this is Suriya's third theatrical release of the year. Scene has a wider Tamil and Malayalam audience, since Jithu Madhavan and Naslen both work in Malayalam cinema.

Box office figures have not been reported. It is not yet known how long the film will run in theatres.
