Rajinikanth's action-comedy sequel Jailer 2 has become the first Tamil film to gross Rs 800 crore at the worldwide box office, according to box office data. The Nelson Dilipkumar-directed film has also pushed past the totals of several major Indian films.
The film took in roughly Rs 400 crore across its extended opening weekend of four days, making it the biggest opener in Tamil cinema history. Its third Sunday, Day 18, brought in Rs 11.50 crore net in India. That took the third weekend to Rs 26.40 crore and the domestic total to Rs 456 crore net, or Rs 533 crore gross.
Overseas markets have also driven the film's earnings. The film has earned close to $29 million outside India, helped by Rajinikanth's popularity in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North America. Together with its domestic figures, that takes the worldwide gross to Rs 808 crore.

The film is also the only Tamil release to earn at least Rs 60 crore in each of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana, the data shows.
By Day 20, the film's India net total had reached Rs 462.7 crore. The film's net profit is Rs 112.7 crore, against a production cost of Rs 350 crore, a return on investment of 32.2 per cent. It is the first Tamil film of 2026 to cross Rs 100 crore in net returns.
Collections have begun to slow. The film earned Rs 3.4 crore on Day 20, a Tuesday, after a strong eight-day first week and a second week that brought in Rs 95.55 crore net.
The film ranks 12th among the most profitable Tamil films of 2026 by return on investment. To reach the top 10, it would need to pass Gatta Kusthi 2, which had a 54 per cent return.
Ticket buyers in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana have made the film the largest earner of its kind in these markets.
A final lifetime total has not yet been given, and the box office figures are still being updated as the film's run continues.
