Mentioned in this story
The trailer of Salman Khan's war drama Maatrubhumi has cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The trailer was passed on Wednesday, 4 November, and received a U/A 16+ certificate. Its runtime is 4 minutes and 43 seconds.
Earlier, the trailer was expected to drop this Friday, with a launch event planned in Mumbai. The makers have not confirmed whether the event will go ahead. The film itself has not yet received its full censor certificate.
A long road to release
The film was first announced as Battle of Galwan. It was based on the 2020 border clash between India and China. It was renamed Maatrubhumi earlier this year. The government raised objections to its content and references to China, at a time when relations between the two countries were improving. The government has since cleared the film.
Chitrangda Singh has been cast opposite Salman in the female lead role. Salman's character is an Indian Army officer drawn from the life of Colonel Santosh. Apoorva Lakhia directs, and Salman Khan Films produces.
Release date still open
The film had earlier been expected on 13 November. The delay in the censor certificate makes that date unlikely. The makers are now considering 20 November or 11 December. Jio Studios will handle distribution across India. A new date could be announced within days.
Buzz around the film is currently low. It is not yet clear whether the trailer will change that. The makers have not yet confirmed a release date or whether the trailer launch will go ahead as planned.
