Lando Norris, the reigning world champion, topped the third and final practice session for the Mexico Grand Prix on Saturday, beating championship leader Kimi Antonelli by just 0.001 seconds. The session took place at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Norris dipped under Antonelli's initial benchmark to take the fastest time. Four top teams appeared to be in contention on the tricky high-altitude circuit, with the margins between them very small.
Midfield struggles
Several midfield teams ran into power unit problems during the session. The high altitude in Mexico City is known to make it harder for engines to produce full power, and the circuit tests car setups closely. Antonelli, who leads the championship, finished second in the session.
The result leaves the top of the timing sheet extremely close heading into qualifying. Teams will now study their data before the grid is set. It is not yet clear which teams have the strongest race pace, as the practice times were so close and fuel loads and tyre choices vary across the field.
