Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder known as 'The Big Show', has retired from international cricket. He made the announcement on Monday.
Maxwell played 149 one-day internationals, 130 Twenty20 Internationals and seven Test matches for Australia. Across those formats, he appeared in 286 matches for his country.
A career with three World Cup titles
Maxwell's career included some of Australia's biggest limited-overs successes. He was in the squads that won the one-day World Cup in 2015 and again in 2023. He also helped the side lift the T20 World Cup in 2021.
His career was marked by a hard-hitting batting style that earned him the nickname 'The Big Show'. He was one of the most recognisable players in the Australian side across white-ball cricket.
Maxwell was also a familiar name in the Indian Premier League, where he has played for several franchises over the years. His retirement from the national side does not end his availability for that league or other franchise tournaments.
His reasons for retiring have not been given, and it is not known whether he will step away from all forms of the game. It is also not yet clear when his final international appearance was, or who will take on his role in the side.
