My Chemical Romance reach No. 1 on Billboard 200 with 20-year-old album

My Chemical Romance have reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart with The Black Parade, an album released 20 years ago. The rock band's anniversary reissue, The Black Parade (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition), took the top slot. It is the first Number One album of the band's career, which spans nearly 25 years.

The reissue moved 78,000 equivalent album units in its first week, counting sales across more than 20 formats and variants. The band released the anniversary edition on 23 October. Physical sales drove the album to the top of the chart.

The win came just ahead of expectations. Midweek predictions had shown My Chemical Romance winning by about a thousand sales. The album beat Olivia Rodrigo's You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love, which had been expected to top the chart.

A chart win for an older record

The Black Parade first came out in 2006 and debuted at No. 2 on the albums chart. Its third album expanded the band's sound into a full rock opera, in the style of Queen. The single "Welcome to the Black Parade" reached the Top Ten. Over the two decades since, the record has grown into a widely cited rock album of the 21st century.

The album also gave the band their first Number One on the UK's official albums chart on Friday. Rodrigo marked the win on Instagram, posting a clip from a My Chemical Romance show she attended at New York's Citi Field earlier this year.

The chart success comes during the band's extended Long Live the Black Parade tour, which began in 2025. The band also had a legal dispute with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading team. Further details on the tour's remaining dates have not been given.
