Priyanka Chopra Jonas announces Ventilator 2, a 2027 release

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has announced Ventilator 2, a sequel to her 2016 Marathi film Ventilator, for release in 2027. The project brings back filmmaker Rajesh Mapuskar, who will write and direct it. Details of the cast and story have not yet been made public.

Priyanka shared the news on Instagram. She looked back at the original film and at the reason she set up her production company, Purple Pebble Pictures. "10 years ago, with @purplepebblepictures, I decided I want to tell stories that mean something," she wrote. "Ventilator was one of those very important stories to us at the company. A decade later, we're coming back to it, with so much more."

The film will be produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Dr Madhu Chopra and Rajesh Mapuskar, under the banners Purple Pebble Pictures and Magij Pictures.

The original film

Ventilator, released in 2016, followed the Kamerkar family. Its members gather at a hospital after an elderly relative is put on a ventilator just before Ganesh Chaturthi. The film mixed humour with emotional scenes to explore family ties, generational gaps and old conflicts.

Mapuskar directed the original and won the National Film Award for Best Director. The film also took awards for editing and sound mixing at the National Film Awards.

Purple Pebble Pictures

Priyanka founded Purple Pebble Pictures to back projects with meaningful stories. The company's return to Ventilator marks a decade since it began. Its plans beyond this sequel have not been detailed.

The announcement does not say who will star in the sequel or what its plot will involve. The filmmakers have not given a specific date for the 2027 release.
