Filming has begun on Sandiyar, the new film starring Kamal Haasan and directed by SU Arun Kumar. The makers announced the start of production on 7 November, the day of Haasan's 71st birthday.

Arun Kumar has previously directed Sethupathi, Siddharth and Chithha. Pairing him with Haasan marks a new collaboration for the two.
