India began their Under-19 Asia Cup campaign with a comfortable 10-wicket win over Nepal on Friday. Opener Aaryavir Sehwag and Lakshya Raichandani batted through to the end, chasing down 129 in 19.1 overs.
Sehwag was the star of the chase. He made 70 from 52 balls, with seven fours and four sixes. Raichandani, his opening partner, scored 53 off 63 balls and hit seven boundaries. Neither batter was dismissed.
The result was India's first win of the tournament, which is a one-day competition for players under 19. Nepal's total of 129 was never seriously tested, and the chase needed little more than the first session of play to complete. The margin of 10 wickets reflected how one-sided the contest became.
Sehwag, the son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, has been one of the country's more closely watched young batters. His innings gives the team a strong platform as the competition moves on.
The match was also a clean all-round display, with the bowlers and batters both contributing to the result. Teams in the group will now look to build on the opening win. Further details of the next fixtures have not been announced.
