Australia have appointed former batter Michael Hussey as a long-term batting consultant. He will support the team's preparation for the 2027 Ashes series and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Hussey, who is known as "Mr Cricket" for his technical knowledge of the game, will join the coaching group led by head coach Andrew McDonald. His role covers key International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments and bilateral series over the next few years. The Cricket World Cup is one of those events.
The appointment is a consultancy rather than a full-time coaching post. Hussey will work with the batters and advise the wider staff on technique and match preparation. Contract length and fee have not been disclosed.
Hussey played for Australia in Tests and one-day internationals and was one of the country's most dependable middle-order batters. His experience of the Ashes, the 50-over World Cup and the Twenty20 format is the main reason he has been brought in.
Australia are due to face India in future ICC events, so any gains in their batting will matter to Indian selectors and supporters.
It is not yet known when Hussey will first work with the squad or where his duties will be based. Cricket Australia has not yet given a detailed statement on the terms of the deal.
