Mentioned in this story
Pink Floyd will release a 50th anniversary reissue of their 1977 album *Animals* on 22 January, with unreleased songs and a live recording from the same era. The band announced the set, and the details come from the company's own announcement and a statement from guitarist David Gilmour.
The package includes both the original album and the 2018 remix. It also adds early studio versions of "Dogs" and "Sheep", an unearthed "Studio Jam" and "Young Nicholas Jon", a composition written by Roger Waters that has never been heard before.
The deluxe edition adds the first official release of the band's concert at the Oakland Coliseum in 1977. Fans have long traded bootleg copies of the show. It features full performances of *Animals* and its predecessor *Wish You Were Here*, two tracks from *The Dark Side of the Moon*, and the only version of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" the band played on that tour. It was the last time the band performed that early instrumental.

Punk's influence on the album
Gilmour said the mood in music was changing in 1977. "Punk music was hitting everything and I suspect that had a little bit of an influence on the way we were working on the *Animals* album," he said. He described it as "quite an aggressive, stripped-back album" that moved away from the soundscapes of *Wish You Were Here*. "This album is more in your face and more rough and ready," he said, adding that Waters' lyrics were "a lot more aggressive".
The reissue follows the 2018 edition, which was delayed from the album's 40th anniversary to 2022. The earlier delay came as the band and former member Roger Waters argued over the liner notes.
The band has also shared the unreleased original radio edit of "Sheep". It cuts the track from about 10 minutes to four minutes, so it can be played on FM radio.
The announcement does not give prices or the release format for the deluxe edition, and it is not yet clear where the set will be sold in India.
