The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Atlanta Falcons 16-0 on Sunday without completing a single pass. It is the first time an NFL team has done that since 1974.
The Buccaneers ran the ball for 324 yards, a franchise record. Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell did most of the work. Quarterback Baker Mayfield threw only three passes, and none were completed, while he managed the clock.
The Tampa Bay defence also played a major part. It forced four interceptions from Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Zero completions by a team in a full NFL game is extremely rare. The last time it happened was in 1974. Both Irving and Gainwell set career-best rushing numbers in the game.
The result also shows how a team can win without a strong passing game. Tampa Bay relied on its running backs for almost the entire offence.
It is not known what the Buccaneers' coach or players said after the game. It is also not known how the Falcons responded. The game was played on Sunday, 1 November, and the result was published the following day.
