What's new

Gamer has announced its Edge 1060 cycling GPS in mid-October, alongside the Edge Explore 3 and 3 Plus and the Tacx Nera smart trainer. According to DC Rainmaker, a number of the new software features on the Edge 1060 will also be ported back to existing devices. Most of these go to the Edge x50 series (550, 850 and 1050), with a smaller set reaching the older x40 series (540, 840, 1040 and 1040 Solar) and the Edge MTB. Garmin has already begun rolling out part of the update in public beta. The remaining features are listed with timelines, with several Strava Live Segment and structured workout updates set for the first quarter of 2027.

Why it matters

For riders who already own Garmin Edge hardware, the update means some of the Edge 1060's newer capabilities will arrive without buying a new device. The limit is hardware: voice control and voice messaging need a microphone, which older Edge units do not have, so those features will stay on the 1060. The report describes the changes as software refinements rather than a major redesign of the Edge line.

What we don't know yet

The sources do not say whether every feature on the Edge 1060 will reach older models, or how the public beta will be expanded. The exact device-by-device list is only outlined in the report and may change before release.
