Verstappen tops Brazilian GP final practice as Hamilton has engine trouble
Antonelli was close behind in second as rain threatened and drivers rushed onto the track in the final session before qualifying.
Key facts
Story- Max Verstappen was fastest in Free Practice 3 at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo
- Kimi Antonelli finished just behind Verstappen in second place
- Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari suffered a mechanical problem during the session
Max Verstappen posted the fastest time in the final practice session of the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo on Friday, 7 November. Kimi Antonelli finished just behind him. Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari suffered a mechanical problem during the session.
Verstappen's margin over Antonelli was narrow. Drivers were under pressure to get laps in because rain was forecast. That forecast pushed every driver onto the track at once, so the session became a race for clear track time.
Hamilton's car developed a fault that cut short his running. The problem came at a time when the team needed as much track time as possible before qualifying.
The session followed a problem in the first practice session. Audi driver Nico Hulkenberg's car suffered a terminal failure after rookie Freddie Slater's car was involved, which ended Hulkenberg's running for that session.
Qualifying will decide the grid for the race, and the forecast rain could change the conditions for that session. Whether the rain will arrive before qualifying has not been confirmed.
