Instagram has released a Mac version of Edits, its video creation tool, for computers running macOS. The company, which is owned by Meta, says the Mac app gives creators a larger workspace for longer and more complex projects.

The editor includes a multi-track timeline, keyframe controls for transitions, and audio waveforms that help users make precise cuts. Creators can also grade colour using colour wheels, curves and log conversion, and import their own LUT and font files to customise their videos.

Settings saved in the mobile app carry over to the desktop, including audio and text presets, and users can change keyboard shortcuts or bring over shortcuts from other editing software. The app includes Instagram's licensed, royalty-free music library and hundreds of sound and video effects. It also generates automatic captions in several languages.

Videos can be published straight to Instagram from the Mac app, with options for tags, location details and trial reels. The app supports both horizontal and vertical formats. Users can export at up to 4K resolution without a watermark and share the files on other platforms.

Instagram has also added support for AI agents through the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, which lets an AI tool help with an editing project. The company says it will release weekly updates based on feedback from creators, and it is working on letting users move projects between desktop and mobile.

Instagram said Edits has passed 50 million users since its mobile debut just over a year ago. The Mac version is available now at edits.com/desktop. Instagram has not said whether a Windows version is planned, or what the app costs.
