Nothing will launch its first AI-native device in December, chief executive Carl Pei said this week. He described it as a tool built with the personality and care that define the company's products.
In a post on X, Pei said the product "ships next month" and "has no new screen." He added that it "couldn't have been an app." He gave few other details about what the device is or how it works. Pei also shared an image showing the Nothing logo above a dark, rounded shape that was hard to identify.
In an essay called Toolmakers, Pei made the case that the present rush of consumer gadgets, which includes wearable pins and pendants, has missed the mark. He said the new device is meant to be a productivity tool, not a standalone breakthrough that replaces the smartphone.
Coming a year after earlier plans
The launch follows Pei's earlier announcement, made just over a year ago, that Nothing would build "AI-native" devices and an AI operating system. The December product is the first step toward that plan.
Nothing has built its reputation on transparent-design phones and earbuds. Pei's comments suggest the company is now moving into a different category of hardware.
What is not yet known
Nothing has not said how much the device will cost, where it will be sold, or what it will do in daily use. Pei has not named the product. Readers will have to wait for the December launch to learn those details.
